In February 2013, the BMW Foundation and the Taproot Foundation hosted the first Global Pro Bono Summit in New York City, an annual gathering of leaders with a shared vision to make the talents and skills of the business community accessible to organizations working for our common good. Since then, organizations from that group have formed the Global Pro Bono Network and committed to supporting and spreading the pro bono movement worldwide. Their first contribution to the sector was the development of the probonoweek.org website.
Pro Bono Week is a worldwide celebration that takes place every year during the last week of October. It celebrates the pro bono ethic in all professionals who use their talents to make a positive difference in local communities around the world. Each year, thousands of people volunteer their professional expertise in marketing, legal, human resources, strategy and IT to support nonprofit organizations. In 2018, more than 50 events were organized in 17 countries during Pro Bono Week.
