Volunteer at Community Soup Kitchen in Argentina
Our Project Partner paves the way for social mobility to take place by promoting cultural knowledge, education and cooperative work. This Soup Kitchen project started in 1994 driven by social engaged mothers and teachers of Villa 21 (Slums), a large unstable housing settlement south of Buenos Aires. The presence of volunteers and the power to teach them Spanish makes the cooks feel very happy, and gives them purpose in what they are doing, as well as be part of a cultural exchange. The neighborhood faces serious health problems, as it is highly contaminated, causing respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases that primarily affect children. The soup kitchen is visited by approximately 50 people from the neighborhood for lunch every day. The space is available to support teenagers when there are volunteer teachers willing to help them.

The kitchen is the best place to learn Spanish. You learn whilst cooking and in a relaxed and fun way. The most important thing is to show an interest in helping and learning. The cooks spend many hours in the kitchen and at times feel that they are only useful in this particular area. The presence of volunteers and the power to teach them Spanish makes the cooks feel very happy that they can help and be part of a cultural exchange. It is important to be a volunteer who is willing to work, has a lot of initiative, enjoys working with people and cooperates with women working here.
