Probono Consultant for Capacity Building Project in Malawi


The non-profit organization is conducting community needs assessment on Youth Development, Education (early childhood development, primary and secondary school education) Climate Change, Safe Motherhood & Maternal Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Gender (Women Empowerment), Food Security and HIV/AIDS in different communities in Chikwawa District. The NGO believes that establishing assessment facts on the social economic status of its target communities will provide a platform for enhanced program interventions. The NGO further understands that for sustainable development to materialize communities are the drivers of the process hence having a Mission to give hope and faith to communities especially the less privileged, the needy, orphans and vulnerable children through social and economic empowerment. As they are still at its age, they would like to have volunteers who will help building skills and knowledge of staff such as administration.

Volunteers will jointly carry out the following activities with NGO officers:
1. Assisting in the formulation of organization policies such as recruitment policy, gender policy, financial policy and other policies related to organization programs
2. Proposal development and fundraising
3. Assisting in the organisation social media
4. Develop a suitable Monitoring and Evaluation system for each program
5 The volunteer also will be working directly with staff to capacitate the organization on the above mentioned areas.


The volunteers should have at least skills or experience in development planning, social media, social science, project management and international development. and a good command in English.

Long Term aim (desired impact):

The long-term of the project is to promote adequate skills provision and creates opportunities to establish concrete relations with the institution being volunteered and community level.

Short Term aim (desired output for the individual volunteer coming):

6 NGO staff able to broaden up their better understanding of organisation process by December 2016

Accommodation on arrival:

The price on the arrival day will be between the ranges of 20 to 30 Euros. This price can be changed either decreasing or increasing according to exchange rate because Malawi Kwacha is not stable on the market.

Project is closed: 

The volunteers will work from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30 pm. Lunch hour starts at 12 noon and ends at 13:30 pm. During the public holidays the volunteers will not participate in the project site unless if there any work that the volunteers wish to do during the holidays.

Social activities (organised by partner):

the NGO will organize youth activities, tour trips such as visiting Majete Nationa Parks to see different types of animals at 20 euros or less than that.

Language lessons: 

Since the volunteers will be working close with NPO staff, staff will teach the volunteers the common words that can be used in the community. Also during the project implementation NPO staff will translate the local language to volunteers and interact with people in the community to learn local language.


Project Manager Executive Director and Project Officers will provide guidance for volunteers to project site, language translation, directions and networking and collaboration with potential partners in the community and outside community.


The NGO use both Telecom Network Malawi (TNM) and Airtel internet Dongle. However, there is need for volunteer to buy TNM or Airtel dongle to use for internet for them to have full access to internet any time and would be good to bring a Laptop if possible for ease work.

Other relevant information:

The volunteers are expected to have Visa before entering Malawi to avoid misunderstandings with the Immigration and security department.
There is need for the NGO to have more information on the Volunteers before they come in terms of skills and health status if possible. The NGO recommends that the volunteers should use Chileka Airport for landing to reduce the expenses for accommodation and Transportation. Once they arrive, they should be prepared to be oriented about Malawi and communities where they will be working with.

This is an indication for us that the pure mediation process is completed here and we can start with the preparation.


You will be prepared individually according to your previous knowledge.

Project Work

During your project work, a fixed contact person is at your disposal at any time.


At regular intervals, we as well as the project partners expect a short documentation of your project results and progress.


At the end of the project a feedback round takes place and the project work will be evaluated together with all participants.

Qualified Letter of Reference

After successful implementation of the project, you will receive a qualified letter of reference.
